Description of your activity
DWAVE S.r.l. operates as an advanced research and development engineering firm specializing in end-to-end space communication technologies. Their core expertise spans the entire lifecycle of high-frequency radio frequency and digital signal processing systems, effectively bridging the gap between spaceborne assets and ground-segment infrastructure. In the space segment, the company focuses on the design, prototyping, and qualification of compact, low-power communication payloads tailored for small satellite constellations and CubeSats. These payloads integrate edge-computing capabilities, advanced digital signal processing, and highly efficient transceivers capable of handling complex data exchange, signal intelligence, and environmental monitoring under strict size, weight, and power constraints.
Complementing their space-segment expertise, the company develops state-of-the-art ground and user terminal technologies to ensure resilient, high-throughput bidirectional connectivity. This involves the miniaturization of radio frequency front-ends through the implementation of advanced planar component technologies, which replace bulky traditional hardware with streamlined, cost-effective integrated alternatives. Furthermore, their activity encompasses the creation of innovative air interfaces and proprietary modulation techniques engineered to maintain stable communication links in challenging low Earth orbit environments characterized by high Doppler shifts and signal interference. By providing both the simulation infrastructure to validate these systems and the physical flight-ready hardware, the company delivers comprehensive telecommunication solutions that advance maritime tracking, internet-of-things connectivity, and secure data routing across the aerospace domain.
Describe your main objective in attending this event
DWAVE S.r.l. has established three primary short-term strategic objectives focused on accelerating the commercial adoption of its qualified space flight hardware, scaling its terminal capabilities into the 5G ecosystem, and expanding its intellectual property portfolio.
1. The first objective centers on the aggressive market promotion of its space-qualified VHF Data Exchange System (VDES) VDE-SAT payload products, specifically targeting the global small satellite and CubeSat market. Leveraging successful developments under European Space Agency frameworks, the company is actively commercializing its VOCS platform architectures. This includes the ultra-lightweight VOCS-1 half-duplex radio frequency front-end tailored for rapid deployment on pico- and nano-satellites, as well as the scaled VOCS-2 full-duplex system designed for micro-satellites requiring simultaneous multi-channel transmission and reception across the entire VDES spectrum. By emphasizing low power consumption, multi-channel processing capabilities, and seamless compatibility with commercial software-defined radio ecosystems, the company aims to capture a significant market share in next-generation maritime tracking and secure data routing.
2. The second strategic objective involves establishing robust capabilities for the design and industrialization of broadband 5G Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) user terminals. Building upon its foundational expertise in Ku- and Ka-band components, the company is transitioning its high-gain active antennas and smart outdoor device units from low-volume prototypes into industrialized, high-yield mass production models. This focus on design-for-manufacturability utilizes proprietary planar stripline technologies, active downconverters, and advanced orthogonal mode transducers to deliver lightweight, low-profile 5G satcom terminals. By effectively bridging the gap between satellite communications and terrestrial networks, the company is positioning itself as a premier design and industrialization partner for global defense, internet-of-things, and commercial mobility sectors requiring ruggedized, high-throughput terminal solutions.
3. The third objective focuses on the commercialization and technical maturation of the company's patented up and down chirp modulation (uDWm) waveform technology. DWAVE is executing a targeted development pipeline to advance this intellectual property from a baseline technology readiness level of TRL 2 up to TRL 4 by the second quarter of 2027, validating its real-world efficiency through rigorous hardware-in-the-loop laboratory simulation. The company is marketing the hardware description language-coded IP core to external satellite communication, defense, and internet-of-things manufacturers as a highly resilient, low-power alternative to traditional air interfaces. This campaign highlights the waveform's unique capability to maintain robust, synchronized bi-directional links in severe low Earth orbit tracking environments plagued by extreme Doppler shifts and high background signal interference.

Your innovative projects
DWAVE S.r.l. is actively advancing two core innovative projects that push the boundaries of spectral compliance, operational coexistence, and communication security within the aerospace sector.
The first project focuses on the development of a high-efficiency radio frequency front-end and payload architecture for the VHF Data Exchange System over satellite (VDE-SAT), tailored specifically for nano- and micro-satellite constellations. A primary technical breakthrough of this payload is the integration of a custom-designed, ultra-high-isolation diplexer that enables true full-duplex communication. This specialized hardware component permits the simultaneous, uninterrupted reception of Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Application Specific Messages (ASM) while executing high-power VDE-SAT data transmissions on closely adjacent frequencies. Furthermore, the entire payload architecture balances high transmission efficiency with ultra-strict spectral purity. By incorporating advanced filtering networks and highly linear power amplifiers, the system complies with the most stringent international regulatory standards, successfully suppressing out-of-band emissions, side-lobe leakage, and spurious noise down to the ambient floor. This ensures total protection for adjacent, highly sensitive passive radio astronomy bands, allowing high-density orbital maritime tracking to coexist seamlessly with ground-based celestial observation infrastructure without blinding radio telescopes.
The second project centers on the commercialization and technical expansion of the company's proprietary up and down chirp modulation (uDWm) waveform technology. Originally engineered to counteract extreme Doppler shifts in low Earth orbit tracking environments, this patented waveform technique utilizes a highly customized distribution of sweeping frequencies to deliver unique capabilities in Low Probability of Detection (LPD) and Low Probability of Interception (LPI). Because the signal energy is spread expansively over time and frequency, it operates efficiently beneath the thermal noise floor of standard electronic warfare interception gear, appearing to unauthorized listeners merely as background atmospheric noise. Beyond its stealth characteristics, the project integrates cutting-edge Physical Layer Security (PLS) mechanisms directly into the air interface. By dynamically varying the mathematical slopes, orthogonal interleaving, and synchronization parameters of the chirps, the waveform prevents adversarial receivers from achieving time-synchronization or carrier-lock without prior knowledge of the transmission parameters. This creates an inherently secure communication link that is heavily resistant to eavesdropping, completely immune to spoofing, and passively shielded against narrow-band jamming attempts in contested operational environments.
